"VISIONS": Conceptual Calligraphy Performance accompanied by Sebastian Plano String Quartet & Electronics
Saturday, June 8th: A salon-style concert by Sebastian Plano, featuring new works from upcoming album "Impetus" for string quartet and electronics, in conjunction with conceptual live calligraphy painting performance by Japanese calligraphy artist Aoi Yamaguchi.
This memorable night will be hosted by Salle Piano & Events in Hayes Valley, where has been historically dedicated to pianos since 1920.
Dying Paper in Layers - "The Eight of Wands" for "Tarot: The Art of Fortune"
I was invited to participate in a themed group show called "Tarot: Art of Fortune" curated by Mike Cuffe, the founder / director of Warholian.com. A 78 person art show spanning every card in a standard Rider-Waite Tarot deck, reimagined by top contemporary artists from around the United States. The card I chose is "Eight of Wands" - and I created an artwork inspired by the meaning of the card.
This is a series of photography, in collaboration with a photographer / artist May Xiong, of myself wrapped in a chiffon fabric with calligraphy painting from the live performance project “UNiBIRTH” in 2012. This portrait series is conceptualized by myself based on the theme of “UNiBIRTH”, which celebrates the reincarnation of lives that exist in nature and signifies the infinite cycle of the universe. Shot in the beautiful woods in San Geronimo, California.
Collaboration with Flower Couture for live calligraphy performance for Sogetsu Ikebana International 40th Anniversary. Pine, bamboo and plum flourish in the most inhospitable conditions bringing beauty where no other living thing can survive. They symbolize the inner strength, flexibility, resistance and permanence.
