Project Details
Commissioned artworks and a live calligraphy performance for ADEAM, a contemporary Japanese fashion brand based in NYC, for their Spring / Summer 2017 Presentation at New York Fashion Week 2016. We installed a 17 ft x 14 ft Japanese Gasen paper on a cyclorama, which I pained live during two-hours fashion presentation, layered with an artwork on sheer fabric suspended in the front. My inspiration was the "movement" in Spring breeze, flattering drapes, gentle carves of garments in motion and continuous flow of energies in the space. Partial artwork is beautifully captured as a backdrop in the ADEAM SS17 lookbook.
ADEAM founder Hanako Maeda's inspiration for the Spring / Summer '17 collection was the elegance of Japanese calligraphy. The fluid movement of abstract calligraphic strokes, as seen in So-sho style or Kana, are reflected as motif in the design details such as drapes, knots, embroidery, prints - weaving the essence of this ancient art form into sophisticated contemporary garments. The collection was presented by ADEAM designer Hanako Maeda; NYFW presentation along with our live calligraphy performance was produced by EYESIGHT Fashion & Luxury Events.
